FAQs

What is the Towson Swim Club?

The Towson Swim Club was formed by a group of neighbors from West Towson and Southland Hills with the goal of bringing a member-owned community pool to the neighborhood. We have been working on this project for over three years. We recently signed a lease with Baltimore County that permits us to build the Towson Swim Club on the site at Towsontown Boulevard and Bosley Avenue. Planning is now underway for an exciting new pool complex that is expected to open on Memorial Day weekend 2013. This is a “once in a lifetime” opportunity, and the founding members of Towson Swim Club hope this pool will become the social center for Towson area neighborhoods in the summertime. The Swim Club facilities will include a regulation size pool with a diving well, a state-of-the-art baby pool, a clubhouse with changing rooms, a vending area and manager’s office, picnic and recreation space, a playground, a sportcourt and an abundance of tables, lounge chairs, and umbrellas located around the pool deck.

Why should I join now if the pool is not opening until 2013?

1.  We are counting on your investment to help build the pool. If you don’t join now, the pool may never become a reality.

2. Membership is limited to the first 400 applicants. If you don’t join now, you will be placed on a waiting list.

3.  Members joining now pay the lowest Membership Certificate amount, and have rights and privileges that will not be offered to future members. By joining now you will insure your Membership Certificate will appreciate, and you can take advantage of the special benefits of this Membership.

How much will it cost to join?

A Member's cost is the $250 application fee, the $275 initiation fee, and the $1975 Membership Certificate. Most of this investment is in the form of the Membership Certificate, which is refundable to the member at the time they resign and their membership is reissued to an incoming member. Annual dues will be comparable with other area pools.

What is the Membership Certificate?

To join the Swim Club requires the purchase of a Membership Certificate, which is similar to a “personal seat license” (PSL) at a stadium. This is a one-time Membership Certificate ($1975) that is required of all members (regardless of when they join) and can be sold back to the Towson Swim Club when and if membership is no longer desired. However, ONLY members that join prior to construction will have the one-time right to transfer their membership certificate with the sale of their house — an attractive benefit to potential homebuyers.

What kinds of memberships are offered?

Individual: Individuals 18 years and older: $495/year*
Couple: 2 adults living in same household: $585/year*
Household: Up to 2 adults and dependent children: $665/year*
Senior: Up to 2 senior adults: $250/year*
Patron: Payment of the membership certificate, to insure the pool is built, without seasonal use of the pool. Membership remains dormant: no annual membership cost.

We are happy at our current pool – why should we join Towson Swim Club?

The Towson Swim Club will be a brand new pool facility with a clean, attractive clubhouse and the latest amenities. It will be centrally located in Towson and will shorten the distance that many people now drive to pools located outside of the neighborhood. Imagine you or your children cycling or walking to this pool to be with your friends and neighbors. This swim club will be “ours” – run by and for the members, not a commercial or public-use facility. Our pool will be the place where adults and kids develop new friendships and the place you will “call home” in the summertime. Towson Swim Club will be the place where members know you and where you nurture relationships, have fun, stay fit, and build community togetherness.

Is the site big enough?

The site is about 2 acres, which is bigger than many other neighborhood pools in the area.

Is there enough parking?

There are about 40 onsite parking spaces. We are making arrangements for additional nearby parking for peak evening and weekend demand.

Will there be a snack bar or concession stand?

Not initially. The developer of the adjoining Warden’s House (which is separate from the Swim Club) has expressed a desire to build a café. The swim club will have vending machines for soda, ice cream and snacks. There will also be room onsite for grilling, and picnicking is encouraged. Since the swim club is located so close to many restaurants in Towson, we expect they will deliver take-out orders to the pool.

Will there be a Swim Team?

Yes, Towson Swim Club will sponsor the Towson Tigersharks swim team. The Tigersharks will compete in a local swim team league.

Will there be Swim Lessons offered?

Yes, swim lessons will be taught by our certified swim team members and coaches.

What other activities can I do besides swimming?

Other activities and amenities at Towson Swim Club include a playground, basketball, tetherball, four square, ping-pong, picnicking, grilling, sunbathing, social events and more.

Will there be privacy and will my children be safe?

The Swim Club will be securely fenced and attractively landscaped. From the street, the pool will be screened and discrete. Bicycle and pedestrian connections will be provided to the surrounding neighborhoods. The entrance to the club will be guarded by pool staff. Only members and their guests will be admitted. Bike racks will be provided onsite.

Will my grandchildren be able to use the pool?

A grandparent who is a member will be able to purchase season passes for their grandchildren.

Can I just wait and see, and maybe pay less to join later?

Membership is limited to the first 400 applicants. If you wish to join after the first 400 memberships are filled, you will be placed on a waiting list, and you will have to wait until a Membership Certificate is available (after a member resigns). At this point you will still have to pay the Membership Certificate amount, which could increase after the pool is constructed.

We live in another community – can we join?

Anyone can join the Towson Swim Club. We already have significant interest from residents of neighborhoods such as Rodgers Forge, Murray Hill, Armagh Village, Ruxton, Greenbrier, Towson Manor Village and Yorkleigh.

We live elsewhere, but work in Towson – can we join?

Yes. But remember, membership is limited to the first 400 applicants.
